Long known as a commuter campus, Cleveland State University (CSU) is in the midst of a comprehensive transformation into a more traditional, residential-focused collegiate environment. With 10 new projects in the works, the urban campus is being redefined.
Leading this change is the new College of Education and Human Services building which renews the University’s commitment to improving education within Cleveland. Anchoring a highly-visible site along the southeast corner of campus, the 100,000 SF building will bring together eight different departments that were previously scattered throughout the campus.

A layered interior layout and a highly-transparent design will create a connection between the community and the school’s mission to educate. The exterior materials include a glass curtain wall, glass fiber-reinforced concrete and a terra cotta screen at the first level and stair tower. These simple yet elegant materials create a welcoming environment that encourages interaction.
Three main entrances will welcome the building’s three distinct users: campus residents, commuting students and the surrounding community. Exterior garden and plaza spaces will connect the building with the existing campus and invite the surrounding neighborhood to utilize the facility and its public counseling and tutoring services.
The College of Education and Human Services is currently pursuing LEED® Silver certification making it the highest rated building on the CSU campus and one of the most sustainable projects in Cleveland.
