Program review is an internal process that should be both meaningful to the unit under review and also align with the University mission and strategic planning decisions. The overall purpose of program review is to proactively and consistently enhance the quality of Cleveland State University's academic and supporting programs through systematic examination and assessment. It is designed to assess all of the undergraduate and graduate (where applicable) degree programs administered by an academic unit (usually an academic department , school or program) as well as other related functions such as service courses and centers. Interdisciplinary and supporting programs and units are also subject to program review.
Although accrediting agencies and the Ohio Board of Regents require us to engage in systematic review, the University conducts these required reviews with an eye towards accountability and a need for creating conditions that stimulate introspection, program planning, and the attainment of progressively higher standards of excellence in each department and curricular area. All CSU academic units and supporting programs are required to undergo a program review on a 5 - 7 year review cycle.
