Science Student Named Valedictorian - Posted on December 14, 2006

Nivedita Clark of Cleveland Heights has been named the valedictorian for Cleveland State University's Fall 2006 Commencement. She will be recognized during the 1:30 p.m. commencement ceremony on Sunday, December 17, at the Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein Center, 2000 Prospect Ave. A procession of graduates and faculty begins at 1 p.m.

Clark is graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Science and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences with majors in psychology and English and a minor in biology. She hopes to attend graduate school and pursue a Ph.D. in neurobiology.

"My experience at Cleveland State has enriched me in ways that transcend book learning. I am indebted to many members of the faculty for their help in providing creative and exciting opportunities for growth," she said.

Clark received the Arnedia Smith Award of the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education for Best Undergraduate Paper - Honorable Mention for her work examining age-related differences in cognitive processing between younger and older adults. She has worked with faculty members on a number of independent study projects in biology and psychology.

Clark works as a communications and database coordinator for the Universal Health Care Action Network and volunteers with Amnesty International USA, the Interreligious Task Force on Central America, Project Learn and other organizations.
