The CSU Rec Center got into the festive spirit on Thursday, May 3 for the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration.
More than75 students filled the rooftop garden for the event. Students snacked on food courtesy of a nacho bar and drank a variety of mocktails while mariachi music floated through the air. Free chair massages were available for stressed students who wanted a moment of relaxation.
Students also had the chance to take a swing at a piñata filled with candy and raffle tickets. The raffle tickets were used toward prizes including gift cards to Burger King, Buffalo Wild Wings, iTunes, Subway and Best Buy. Lucky student Uniqua Kirlew took home the grand prize of an Amazon Kindle.
The Cinco de Mayo celebration is hosted at the Rec Center each spring as a fun break from the semester. “It’s a good way for students to relax before finals week,” said Julianne Petricini, the graduate supervisor for Membership & Guest Services.
The night provided students with an escape from the stress of the end of the semester, and cleared their minds for upcoming finals. Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us, Cinco-style!
More than 600 people packed the basketball courts at the CSU Rec Center on Wednesday, April 11 to try their luck at Billionaire Bingo.
Ten rounds of bingo were played at the student-only event, with raffle prizes drawn between each round.
The grand prize of the evening was $25,000. Unfortunately no one was able to fill their bingo board before the 49 bingo numbers were called. However, Dominic Forlini was the first to cover his entire board and walked away with a consolation prize of a 4-hour limo rental and a $500 Visa gift card.
Jessica Lowy was the lucky winter of a 60” TV and Kamil Klinkosz was awarded a CSU book scholarship for Fall 2012. Timothy Kamczyc took home a 42” TV and Xbox Kinect gaming system, and two platinum passes to Cedar Point were won by Christopher Hreha.
Other prizes of the night included mountain bikes, a Go Pro cam, a guitar, an electric scooter and a skateboard.
The event was made possible by the CSU Rec, Campus Activities Board, Legacy Village, Buffalo Wild Wings, Liquid Planet, Lodi Station Outlets, Giant Eagle and Dave & Busters.
Thanks to everyone who participated and made this night such a success!
Cleveland State’s Campus Recreation Services was proud to host the 4th annual Rock the Rec on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Bigger and better than ever, the event brought in hundreds of students and guests to the Rec Center to partake in the rockin’ evening.
From freshmen to seniors, all students walked throughout the event with smiles on their faces. “I feel like everyone really loved the free giveaways,” said James, a CSU freshman who attended Rock the Rec for the first time. And free giveaways were everywhere to be found: t-shirts, water bottles, magnets and food courtesy of Jimmy John’s and Moe’s Southwest Grill.
The second floor of the Rec Center was converted into a game room. Massive inflatable obstacle courses were set up throughout the floor, and students competed in a variety of challenging games during the CSU version of “Minute to Win It.” “The event was totally awesome. The inflatables were my favorite part,” commented Freshman Morgann Davis after competing against her friends in the obstacle course. The remainder of the second level became a dance floor as the DJ spun Top 40 hits.
A highlight of the event was the raffle toward the end of the night. Prizes included gift cards to Best Buy, Nike, Starbucks, iTunes, Chipotle and Foot Locker, among others. A grand prize of a sparkling new Schwinn bicycle was given to Dheeraj, a CSU freshman. The winning ticket pulled for an iPod Touch belonged to Freshman D’Santaneyce Pulliam.
The prize that every student had their eye on during the raffle was the 32” flat screen television. The lucky winner of the TV was Sophomore Frederike Devau. “Oh my gosh, I’m going to cry!” she exclaimed after taking her prize.
As the night came to an end, students slowly trickled out of the Rec Center doors. They returned home with armloads of door prizes, shirts and information about the Rec Center. “The night was really fun! The best out of my three years of coming,” remarked Junior Nicole Palermo.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a great success.
