Two student representatives serve on the Board of Trustees at Cleveland State University.
The Student Representatives shall serve on the board of trustees with the right to suggest proposals for consideration by the board and the president, and to attend, with voice, all meetings of the board and its committees. Student representatives shall not be entitled to attend executive sessions of the board.
It is the responsibility of the student representatives to not only represent the view of the students, but the view of the university, at board meetings. Student representatives are self-motivated, have the desire to serve the Cleveland State University community, and relish the opportunity to impact higher education in the state of Ohio. In addition, student representatives attend and assist in many social, athletic, and ceremonial university functions.
A new student representative is appointed by the governor every year for a two year term, staggered in contrast to a currently-serving student representative. Student representatives apply through the Department of Student Life, are ratified by the Student Government Association (SGA), and are then appointed by the Governor of Ohio.
