* My favorite book changes all the time, to suit moods and inclinations. I hold Watership Down close, keeping the tattered paperback I first read in Jr. High around even though the pages are falling out. The most beautiful, meaningful thing I've read recently is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, but don't kid yourself, this academic is consuming her fair share of zombie apocalypse fiction too. * My favorite college memory is not for you (sorry). * The thing I enjoy doing the most when I'm not teaching is spending time with family and friends-I've won the people lottery. * My favorite vacation get-away is Curses! The brain always wants more time in NYC, the soul is yearning for anyplace with snorkeling and a swim-up-bar, and alas the wallet (and perhaps current contract negotiations) say I can afford the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. Sigh. * My favorite thing about working at CSU is the endless possibility. A good university helps you envision the future of your choosing and with a little chutzpah (and a lot of work), make your own luck. That's true for students and faculty alike. * Other than my current job, my DREAM job would be my current job with a course release. (And maybe an office without a chain link fence ceiling. Seriously kids, does it weird you out that this is my dream job? Adult life is that complicated. Stay in school.) * I was born in Garfield, Ohio. Hometown girl makes good... * I did my undergraduate work at Kent State University (see above). * Anyone who knows me uses this ONE word to describe me: But they won't tell me what it is. * My favorite teacher during my life was Mr. Richard Petersen, my English teacher at Nordonia Jr. High, who pushed me into AP courses and taught me the finer points of storytelling: understanding more about how language worked (even if, to this day, I break out in a cold sweat when asked to diagram a sentence), parsing apart a narrative to analyze why it resonated. His energy in the classroom really connected with a kid who loved books to begin with. I credit him with helping me along a career path that I'm thankful for every day. After all, designers are visual storytellers. |
